The Hidden Struggle in the Church: Why We Must Talk About Porn
“For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” – Luke 8:17
A recent Barna Group study revealed a staggering reality: over 60% of practicing Christian men regularly use pornography. Let that sink in. These aren’t secular statistics. These are numbers from inside the Church—from men who pray, read their Bibles, attend Sunday services, and yet silently carry a secret that slowly erodes their spiritual life, their relationships, and their self-worth.
At Men’s Life Group, we don’t hide from this truth. We confront it—because we believe freedom is only possible when we walk in the light.
The Lie of Isolation
Most men caught in pornography think they’re alone. They carry shame like a second skin and believe that if anyone knew, they’d be rejected or disqualified. But the Barna research confirms what many of us have suspected for years: this struggle is widespread—and deadly silent.
When sin lives in secrecy, it grows. But when it’s brought into brotherhood, it begins to die.
Why the Church Must Respond
The Church is not a museum for saints but a hospital for sinners. If pornography is infecting the hearts of the very men we’re discipling—and we choose silence—we’re leaving our brothers wounded on the battlefield.
We need safe places within the Church for men to be honest, to confess, and to be held up by other men who have walked through the same fire. The Church must offer more than guilt—we must offer grace, truth, and accountability.
Our Mission at Men’s Life Group
For the past four years, our weekly men’s group has been walking this out. We provide a space where men can be honest about their battle with lust, pornography, and emotional isolation. Together, we pursue sexual integrity—not through willpower, but through the gospel of Jesus Christ and the support of other brothers in Christ.
We aren’t perfect. But we are real.
An Invitation to Pastors and Churches
If you’re a church leader, we want to partner with you. Whether that means helping one man who needs a safe place to heal, or simply talking through what healthy men’s discipleship looks like, we’re here to serve.
Pornography won’t be defeated by silence. But it can be overcome through community, confession, and Christ.
If you’d like to start the conversation, reach out. We’re stronger together.
